U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) said the latest version of the GOP tax reform bill released this evening will force Ohioans to pay for tax cuts for millionaires and corporations by taking away their healthcare, driving up insurance premiums and forcing cuts to Medicare. The latest version of the bill cuts taxes for millionaires even further than the Senate bill by dropping the top statutory tax rate. Tax reform should have been an opportunity to work together to cut taxes for working people. I offered to work with the President and Republicans, and I introduced multiple amendments that could have put real money in the pockets of Ohioans. Instead Washington chose to cut taxes for millionaires and corporations and pay for it by cutting Medicare and kicking people off their health insurance, said Brown. And it wont stop there Congressional Republicans are already planning to steal the money Ohioans have paid into Medicare and Social Security to pay for the hole they are blowing in the deficit. In order for Republicans to pay for their permanent tax cuts for corporations, many Republicans including President Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan have said they will take up so-called entitlement reform and make cuts to Medicare and Social Security. Throughout the process, Brown offered several amendments, including one to expand the child tax credit and another to cut taxes only for corporations that do not send jobs overseas.
