Today, U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, applauded the signing of the final agreement between the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and Sound Transit to provide funding to the Lynnwood Link light rail extension project: Finalizing this agreement means we can put shovels in the ground in early 2019 to provide commuters with a faster option to get to work, school, and throughout Puget Sound. With a 28 minute travel time between Lynnwood and downtown Seattle, Snohomish County will soon have a transit option that delivers the connectivity it needs to keep up with the tremendous growth the region has experienced. Senator Cantwell has long fought for more public transit and infrastructure funding for Puget Sound and Washington state, and she has repeatedly pressed senior Department of Transportation officials for funding for the Lynnwood Link project. At Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao's confirmation hearing, Cantwell urged Chao to prioritize more funding for Sound Transit. Cantwell has also fought back against the administration's efforts to cancel funding for nearly 60 shovel-ready public transit projects, including the Lynnwood Link project, and has advocated for strong funding for the Capital Investment Grant program. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
