U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) released the following statement on the Amtrak train derailment near Olympia, Washington. My heart breaks for all those affected by todays derailment. We owe so much to the first responders who responded quickly to protect the public and save lives. I have spoken with Governor Inslee, the National Transportation Safety Board, Amtrak leadership, and others, and continue to get information on the derailment. We need to let the investigators on the ground do their job, and we should pay close attention to their recommendations to ensure that this type of tragedy will not be repeated. Until then, I will work with Senator Murray and the congressional delegation to ensure federal resources are available as needed. ### | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
