U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $663,223 through the U.S. Department of Agricultures (USDA) Office of Rural Development. Funding comes through the Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant program and will support the expansion of telemedicine services in several West Virginia counties. Services will primarily focus on behavioral health and ensuring a continuum of care for those suffering from chronic kidney disease. Broadening access to health care in rural areas saves lives. Telemedicine is a cost-effective option for providing many basic health care services, and it helps ensure West Virginians are able to access care right in their communities, Senator Capito said. This funding through USDA will help expand telemedicine in several counties throughout West Virginia. Through my Capito Connect plan to expand broadband service and connectivity, I am working to ensure these types of service can continue and expand, and I will do everything I can to give West Virginians access to themno matter where they live.
