Today, U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) met with local officials at Buckhannon-Upshur High School and discussed how broadband can help students with educational and career opportunities. Senator Capito was joined by Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Anne Hazlett from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The Central West Virginia Development Association recently received $3 million from USDA to provide broadband to more than 3,600 households, businesses and community facilities in Barbour, Randolph and Upshur counties. The availability of high-speed internet is an absolute necessity for West Virginia students and businesses to be able to compete in a global digital economy, Senator Capito said at Mondays event. Through my Capito Connect plan, I have led the effort to expand broadband infrastructure and bridge the digital divide in our state. This investment by USDA is a critical step in connecting West Virginia, and I cant wait to see the opportunities that will result from this project.
