U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) today announced $22,593 in funding for the Housing Authority of Raleigh County to provide housing assistance for homeless Veterans. With Veterans Day around the corner, I am pleased to announce funding that will assist homeless veterans in need of permanent housing in Raleigh County. We can never do enough to repay our veterans, but we can do everything in our power to ensure West Virginia veterans have access to the resources and care they have earned. These funds will help our heroes in need find a home and get access to the help they deserve, said Senator Capito. The men and women who have courageously defended our country deserve the best care and benefits, and even one Veteran sleeping on the street is one too many, Senator Manchin said. I am pleased that Raleigh County will receive funds to assist those who are struggling with homelessness. This program will help provide our heroes who are facing difficulties as they return home get the help they need. It is our duty to fight for those who have fought for us, and I remain committed to making sure our country keeps its promises to our Veterans. The funding is being awarded through the HUD-VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program, a cooperative grant program established under the Departments of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and Veterans Affairs (VA). This program helps homeless Veterans find housing through a combination of HUDs Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance and the VAs case management and clinical services. The money is distributed to public housing agencies so they can provide long-term housing assistance to vulnerable Veterans who have experienced homelessness for extended periods of time.
