U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced $1,626,768 for the West Virginia Division of Justice and Community Services through two grants from the U.S. Department of Justices Office on Violence Against Women. Funding will help develop and strengthen law enforcement and prosecution efforts to combat violent crimes against women, as well as support services for victims of sexual assault and rape. Individual awards are listed below. Violence against women is utterly unacceptable, and I intend to continue fighting back with resources like these to support survivors and prosecute their abusers, Senator Capito said. This funding will support our community crisis centers as they work to help women recover from these awful crimes. Violence is always horrific but especially so in a romantic or familial relationship. This funding will support community efforts to combat violent crimes against women to help victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence and stalking get the justice they deserve and begin healing and rebuilding their lives. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will continue advocating for these resources so every community has the resources to support domestic violence victims, Senator Manchin said.
