Following calls from U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) to reverse course, this week, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that it would not more forward with proposed cuts to programs that assist homeless veterans who are looking for housing and utilize additional services offered by the VA. Last month, Senator Capito and other members of the Senate Appropriations Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Subcommittee wrote to VA Secretary David Shulkin urging him to not move forward with proposed cuts to critical veterans programs. Yesterday, Secretary Shulkin issued a statement saying there will be absolutely no change in the funding to support our homeless programs.
