U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today applauded the U.S. House of Representatives passage of two bipartisan resolutions to void the Environmental Protection Agencys harmful Clean Power Plan regulations for new and existing power plants. The two resolutions sponsored by Senators Capito and Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) now head to President Obamas desk, sending a strong signal in the midst of the international climate negotiations in Paris that the presidents climate policies do not have the backing of Congress. Hardworking families cannot afford these crushing regulations that threaten jobs and affordable energy while doing little to actually improve the environment, said Senator Capito. Sending these resolutions to the presidents desk is an important step in the fight against the harmful Clean Power Plan, and shows that any international climate deal reached in Paris will be met with skepticism here at home. World leaders should be cautious about entering into a deal with an administration whose misguided policies lack the backing of a bipartisan majority in Congress. Before moving to the House, the resolutions of disapproval passed the U.S. Senate with a bipartisan majority.
