U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today announced $87,280,000 has been secured for West Virginia flood relief through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Developments (HUD) Community Development Block Grant Disaster Relief (CDBG-DR) Program. This funding builds on the $17 million in CDBG-DR funding that Senator Capito secured for West Virginia in October, resulting in a total of more than $104 million for flood recovery through CDBG-DR to date. Todays news is an early Christmas gift for countless families and businesses in southern West Virginia who are continuing to recover from this summers devastating flooding. No amount of money can replace what was lost, but this disaster recovery support means that many families can begin to get back on their feet, businesses can rebuild and our communities can become safer and stronger than ever. I fought every step of the way to direct this critical funding to West Virginia, and I am grateful for my colleagues who supported this effort to help our friends and neighbors in need, said Senator Capito. As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Senator Capito led efforts to secure funding for the CDBG-DR Program, most recently in the continuing resolution that passed the Senate and was signed into law by the president on December 10, 2016. Last week, Senator Capito urged HUD Secretary Julian Castro to dedicate a significant portion of the funding to victims in West Virginia. I made a strong commitment to West Virginians who were devastated by the floods that ravaged our state in June.
