In a major step forward to stop the Environmental Protection Agencys (EPA) unworkable and overreaching regulations, a bipartisan resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) to void EPAs regulations for existing power plants passed the Senate today. Todays vote signaled that a majority of the U.S. Senate disapproves of the presidents economically catastrophic energy regulations. American jobs and economic growth are being held hostage as the administration proposes regulations that harm energy-producing states, said Senator Capito. Todays passage of a bipartisan resolution of disapproval makes clear that enough is enough the president cannot move forward with policies at expense of our families, communities and economy. The administration needs to understand coals role in our energy landscape, and I will continue my efforts to ensure that our state has access to affordable, reliable energy. North Dakota power plants need workable rules if theyre going to continue generating affordable and reliable electricity for families and small businesses, said Senator Heitkamp. EPAs rules on existing power plants are not realistic for my state and many others, and this resolution makes it clear that a bipartisan majority of the Senate agrees. To make sure overly burdensome EPA regulations dont hurt my state, Ill keep pushing for a viable solution through legislation, negotiation, and legal challenges. Senator Capito also voted with a bipartisan majority of the Senate to pass a resolution disapproving of the Clean Power Plan regulations for new power plants introduced by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Senator Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.).
