Of Commerce Investigations Into Foreign Steel Dumping, Unfair Subsidies | 2017-10-30 | 2017 | 2017-10 | Democrat | House | PA | Bob Casey | C001070 | www.casey.senate.gov | legacy | Washington, D.C. – Following Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross’s announcement that the U.S. Department of Commerce would initiate an antidumping (AD) investigation into practices by China, Italy, and Taiwan and a countervailing duty (CVD) investigation into alleged unfair Chinese subsidies, U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) released the following statement: “I’m encouraged by this announcement from Department of Commerce and would like to applaud the Bonney Forge Corporation and the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union on their work in filing the petitions which brought about these investigations. As I have outlined in a number of letters and conversations, we must take the threat of unfair trade practices seriously. When countries cheat, we must go after them with everything we have. These investigations are a step in the right direction but I will continue pressing the Administration until we have concrete answers.” According to the Department of Commerce, the AD investigations will work to determine whether imports of forged steel fittings from China, Italy, and Taiwan are being dumped in the U.S. market at less than fair value. The CVD investigation will attempt to determine whether Chinese producers of forged steel fittings are receiving unfair government subsidies. The International Trade Commission (ITC) will make preliminary determinations in the coming month. The ITC’s findings will determine if the Department of Commerce investigations will continue.
