The bill would protect the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area, Lackawanna Heritage Valley National Heritage Area, Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, and Schuylkill River Valley National Heritage Area for the next decade. Casey pushed for the measures to be included in the bill. “Preserving these historic areas will protect Pennsylvania’s history and boost our economy by attracting visitors from throughout the country,” Senator Casey said. “Passing this legislation will give these communities more certainty by protecting these precious areas for another decade.” National Heritage Areas (NHAs) are designated by Congress as places where natural, cultural, and historic resources combine to form a cohesive, nationally important landscape. Through their resources, NHAs tell nationally important stories that celebrate our nation's diverse heritage. NHAs are lived-in landscapes.
