Orono, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins participated in a groundbreaking for the Green Engineering & Materials Factory of the Future at the University of Maine (UMaine). The Factory of the Future will be a 50,000 square foot facility that will usher in a new era of large-scale advanced manufacturing at the nexus of engineering and computing. The Factory will serve as a new national model to integrate research, leaning, and manufacturing. “UMaine’s Factory of the Future will establish Maine as a national leader in additive and advanced manufacturing,” said Senator Collins. “This state-of-the-art facility will spur innovation, strengthen our national defense, and give students invaluable experience in pioneering high-tech industries.” Senator Collins has secured more than $90 million to support the Factory of the Future project.
