For those brave men and women in our Armed Forces who can’t be with their loved ones this holiday season, we should join together to support these heroes and their families and express our gratitude for all that they do on our behalf.” In December 2007, Walter Reed Army Medical Center asked the Red Cross to help distribute thousands of holiday cards for wounded service men and women. In response to the request, the Red Cross turned the project into a nationwide effort that could reach members of the military at other facilities in the U.S. and around the world.
