Plymouth, ME – Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins delivered remarks and toured the facility at a celebration of the new fire station in Plymouth. The event also recognized “National Maine Day,” which occurs today, December 21st. “I enjoyed touring the new station and speaking with Plymouth’s firefighters and town leaders about how this facility will improve their ability to respond to emergencies and keep people safe,” said Senator Collins. “I was pleased to advocate for federal funding to support the Town of Plymouth’s new fire station through last year’s funding bill, and I will continue to champion federal investments that help to ensure the safety of first responders and communities throughout Maine.” Following Senator Collins, Bradley Foss, the Deputy Chief of the Plymouth Fire Department, spoke to those in attendance. Deputy Chief Foss discussed a recent near-carbon monoxide poisoning, when a local household was using a power generator without proper ventilation. Fortunately, tragedy was avoided in that case, but as countless Mainer’s power-up their backup generators in response to the widespread electrical outages this week, Deputy Chief Foss wanted to stress the life-or-death importance of proper generator safety to those in Plymouth and throughout the State of Maine. Senator Collins, Vice Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, secured $800,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending last year to replace the Town of Plymouth’s aging fire station that had fallen into disrepair.
