Of that funding, Jay Police Department and Madawaska Police Department will each receive $125,000, and the Somerset County Police Department will receive $250,000. “Mainers across the state rely on local law enforcement to help keep them safe, and federal investments can play an important role in assisting those community efforts,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “This funding will provide vital assistance to the Jay, Madawaska, and Somerset County Police Departments as they work to protect families and promote public safety.” This funding was awarded through the DOJ’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) COPS Hiring Program (CHP). The COPS Office awards grants to hire community policing officers, develop and test innovative policing strategies, and provide training and technical assistance to community members, local government leaders, and all levels of law enforcement.
