WASHINGTON U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) praised the House passage of the Jobs for Our Heroes Act, a bill he authored that was championed in the House by Rep. Rob Woodall (GA-7) to reduce barriers for active-duty military, reservists, and veterans applying for Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDLs). Excerpts of Sen. This bill streamlines a processby which active duty military,reservists, and veterans canapply for Commercial Driver'sLicenses, and as the presidingofficer knows and people mayknow generally, there is ashortage of people who can get aCommercial Driver's License andfill these well-paying jobs.This bill would also allowstates to permanently waivelicense requirements for currentservice members and nationalguardsmen if they have militaryexperience driving a comparablevehicle. That way, members of themilitary don't have to gothrough the same old rigmaroletwice.They get trained in themilitary, and then they get out,and then the civilian worldignores the fact that they havetrained and been qualified inthe military, and this billfixes that.I'm honored to have a broadrange of bipartisan support forthis legislation.
