Fox Water Treatment Plant. The new facility received $33.3 million in federal funding. It serves the Fort Berthold Rural Water system and is named in honor of Bruce Fox Sr., the longtime Operations, Maintenance and Repair supervisor, who retired after 33 years in the position. Prior to his retirement, Fox Sr. oversaw the Fort Berthold treatment plants and distribution team. U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Transportation and Infrastructure, joined Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara (MHA) Nation leaders to celebrate the grand opening and honor Fox Sr.’s decades of service to the community. Funding for the facility comes from the 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), which Cramer helped craft and shepherd through Congress. “It was an honor to join in the celebration at the community where I was adopted into the Mandan Tribe, and to have the facility named after the legendary Bruce Fox makes it all the more special,” said Cramer, “Plants like this are transformational to MHA Nation and rural communities throughout North Dakota, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help provide the support needed to make it happen.” Located a few miles north of Mandaree, the complex includes a treatment building, office space, maintenance shop, and storage building. The water treatment plant doubles the production capacity of the previous plant, treating up to 1,000 gallons per minute with Nanostone ultrafiltration membrane technology.
