Thislegislation passed today: Reauthorizes theTerrorismRisk Insurance Program for seven years and preserves the taxpayer reforms included in the 2015 reauthorization; DirectstheTreasuryDepartmentin its biennial report on this program to include an evaluation of the availability and affordability ofterrorismrisk insurance; and Aligns mandatory recoupment from private insurers by the federal government in the event of an act ofterrorism; Directs the Government Accountability Office to analyze and report on the vulnerabilities and potential costs of cyberterrorism, adequacy of coverage under the Program, and to make recommendations for future legislative changes to address evolving cyberterrorismrisks. TheTerrorismRisk Insurance Program was enacted in 2002 after originally being introduced in the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. It is currently set to expire at the end of 2020. Senator Cramer joined Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Tina Smith (D-MN) to introduce this bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the program for seven years.
