https://www.crapo.senate.gov/media/newsreleases/release_full.cfm?id=349252 Crapo Opposed Defense Bill Due To Increased Spending 2013-12-20 2013 2013-12 Republican House ID Michael Crapo C000880 www.crapo.senate.gov     legacy December 20, 2013 Crapo Opposed Defense Bill Due To Increased Spending All amendments were blocked and the legislation violates the new budget agreement Washington, D.C. - Idaho Senator Mike Crapo could not support the National Defense Authorization Act, or the NDAA, due to the increased spending included in the package.  The NDAA violates the spending caps put in place by the Budget Control Act of 2011 and spends more than what was agreed upon in the recently passed Ryan/Murray budget agreement.  "Passage of this bill is a prime example of Washington speaking out of both sides of the mouth," said Crapo.  "This legislation continues the bad policy of spend now and pay later, yet Washington never finds the will to pay its bills.  The budget caps we have in place are finally helping to control spending, and by violating these spending levels we are doing a disservice to our men and women in uniform who fight to protect this nation daily.   When dealing with our fiscal situation, everything must be on the table and the defense department can be no exception. "Additionally, while this bill was being considered on the Floor, the majority leader blocked consideration of any amendments to improve the legislation.  This practice has become all too common in the U.S. Senate.  Obstructing the right to offer amendments is not only creating more gridlock, but prevents the views and opinions of our constituents from being heard."
