"The economic costs to consumers paying for energy must be considered when the government seeks to regulate energy production, be they from coal, oil or other sources," Crapo said. "The Supreme Court ruled wisely in recognizing that Americans pay for the energy decisions made by federal agencies like the EPA. Whether it is water or energy, the economic damage to Americans must be recognized." Crapo noted that while Congress debates ways to diversify the nation's energy portfolio, it should take into account what the costs are for consumers and make any moves in a measured way. The nation's high court ruled today that the EPA must take into account federal regulations that could cost billions a year---increases that will be seen in the energy bills of power customers.
