Upon passage, Sen. Cruz said, “This provision paves the way for Laughlin Air Force Base's Roberto Barrera Elementary STEM Magnet School to be assessed, ranked, and considered for future construction funding. This move is a top priority for the Del Rio and Laughlin Air Force Base community. I am proud to support educational opportunities for the children of our servicemembers.” Sen. Cornyn said, “I am proud to champion legislation alongside Senator Cruz to designate the post office in Bastrop, Texas, after Sergeant Major Waugh, a decorated combat war veteran and eight-time Purple Heart recipient who dedicated five decades of service to our country. Now that this bill has passed the House, we are one step closer to renaming this facility in his honor, which will serve as a reminder of his impressive legacy and lifetime of service for generations to come.” BACKGROUND The DoD Education Activity (DoDEA), formerly the Department of DoD Dependents Schools and DoD Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools, operates 160 schools located in 11 foreign countries, seven states, and two territories.
