Senator Steve Daines today recognized John Joyce of Helena as an Angel in Adoption an honor designated to Americans making a difference in the lives of children through adoption. As a Guardsman and Afghanistan veteran from Helena, Montana, John has a heart for serving not only his country, but his community. John is a source of support, stability and inspiration for the young men he has helped foster and has been a source of inspiration for the Helena community and the state of Montana,stated Daines. After returning from deployment in Afghanistan and while still serving in the Montana National Guard, Joyce registered to become a foster parent. He became a single father when he adopted his son Shawn, now 26. Joyce has since been trained by Intermountain, a Helena-based health services facility, to be a therapeutic foster care parent. Through Intermountain, Joyce met and adopted Ian, now 15, and Solomon, now 13. Joyce's dedication to the foster care program and commitment to self-improvement earned him the title ofFoster Parent of the Yearin 2004 by the Department of Health and Public Services of Montana.
