Administrator McCarthy heard directly from the Hoosier farmers, producers, and conservationists who are affected daily by the regulations put in place by the EPA. Sarah Bittleman, senior agricultural counselor to the EPA, was also present to listen to the concerns of Hoosiers. Donnelly said, “There’s no better location than to be right here on the farm with Indiana farmers to find out the effect of these rules and to let Administrator McCarthy and everyone in the EPA know there is no one with better incentives to be great stewards of the land and managers of the environment than our farm families that work and live on it every day.” Administrator McCarthy answered questions and listened to comments regarding EPA’s recently announced reduction in the volume of renewable fuels required in our overall fuel supply. Senator Donnelly opposes this reduction, which would hurt Indiana’s economy and lessen our nation’s energy security. Hoosiers described to McCarthy the negative impact the reduction would have on farmers directly and on the ethanol and overall biofuel industries.
