Today, U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly hosted 4-star Army General Joseph Votel, the Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), at Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane (NSWC Crane). The visit highlighted the cutting-edge work that NSWC Crane does to support military special operations and opportunities for expanded collaboration. As SOCOM Commander, General Votel oversees special operations forces across the military services, such as Army Green Berets and Rangers, Navy SEALs, Air Force Air Commandos, and Marine Raiders. Donnelly and General Votel will be joined by the head of the Indiana National Guard Major General Corey Carr and other leaders at NSWC Crane. Donnelly, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Ranking Member of the Strategic Force Subcommittee said, NSWC Crane has a long history of providing rapid, innovative, and highly-reliable support to our special operators. As our country continues to rely on our military special operations forces to perform our most sensitive and difficult missions around the world, NSWC Crane will continue to have a critical role developing the tools they need to succeed using the best technology available. I am glad General Votel joined me at NSWC Crane to see first-hand the hard work Hoosiers do every day for special operations command, and I will continue working to make sure that our servicemembers have the support they need to keep our country safe. Donnelly meets with General Votel at NSWC Crane. General Votel said, It has been humbling to spend the day meeting with and learning from NSWC Crane's amazing Americans. With support from the great State of Indiana and leaders like Senator Donnelly, Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane directly contributes to America's special operators by providing high-confidence systems through rapid innovation they play a key role in keeping us all safe." Captain JT Elder, Commanding Officer of NSWC Crane said, "Having the opportunity to share information directly with the U.S. Special Operations Command is a great honor for Crane. Senator Donnelly is very interested in working to support the Special Operations Forces and their important role in the security of this nation." In July 2015, Donnelly sent a letter inviting General Votel to visit NSWC Crane and learn more about the unique capabilities offered by NSWC Crane to support SOCOM.
