Logan College (JALC) to see firsthand the impacts that a $1,235,000 federal investment she secured through Fiscal Year 2024 Congressionally Directed Spending is having on the college’s nursing program. This Duckworth-secured federal investment enabled JALC to build new classrooms and purchase equipment to better prepare students for careers in health and nursing. While on campus, Duckworth also met with Dr. Kirk Overstreet, JALC’s President, as well as Provost Stephanie Chaney Hartford and the rest of the leadership team. Photos from today’s visit can be found on the Senator’s website. “Our state and our nation are stronger when we invest in our communities and families—and that’s one of the things Congressionally Directed Spending allows us to do,” Duckworth said. “I'm grateful I was able to secure critical support for projects across our state, including this expansion of John A. Logan College's on-campus nursing program. I’m proud to see this federal funding support new, modern classrooms and equipment to help train the next generation of nurses and health professionals at JALC.” John A. Logan College is a public community college in Carterville, Illinois with a total enrollment of about 3,300 students. The JALC Nursing Program offers three stand-alone nursing programs: Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Practical Nursing (PN) and Associate Degree Nursing (ADN). In Fiscal Year 2024, Duckworth and U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) successfully secured more than $264 million through the CDS process for Illinois, $182 million in FY23 and another $211 million for Illinois in FY22.
