Duckworth heard from local leaders about the importance of more and flexible spending for local municipalities to continue to fund important social services, as well as vaccine distribution plans across Central Illinois. Illinois communities have gone far too long without a much-needed COVID-19 stimulus package that would bring meaningful relief and resources into the hands of working families, frontline workers and local governments that desperately need help right now, Duckworth said. I know our working families, small businesses and local communities that are carrying the weight of this pandemic have been left behind, but I'm going to keep working hard to make sure this doesn't keep happening and they have assistance they need and deserve. Duckworth was joined virtually by Decatur Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe, Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis, Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder, Champaign Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen, Urbana Mayor Diane Marlin, Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner and Normal Mayor Chris Koos. Duckworth has been a strong supporter of providing more funding to state and local governments to help with budget shortfalls as a result of COVID-19.
