My friend, my soul brother, Flip McConnaughey died early this morning. I am here in Washington, D.C. today, but memories take me back to Wyoming. It’s the 1970s. I’m 30. Flip is 25 and together, I as mayor and Flip as city administrator, are preparing a town to grow to a city of 30,000. Then I’m back at Flip’s office in Laramie, Wyoming just before I came to Washington, D.C. to work for Wyoming in the U.S. Senate. I’m asking Flip to come and help me by being my chief of staff. He’s telling me emphatically, no. I am thankful he changed his mind. I thank the Lord that He blessed my life and many of our lives. He was a people person, guiding when needed, teaching when appropriate or getting someone focused. God bless you, Flip.” | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
