https://www.enzi.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/news-releases?ContentRecord_id=b775a08b-67fa-4ec7-9c86-2d13e83a5697 Congress leaves No Child Left Behind, passes new education bill to return power to parents, teachers, states 2015-12-09 2015 2015-12 Republican House WY Michael Enzi E000285 www.enzi.senate.gov     legacy Today Congress passed a monumental education bill that returns the responsibility of educating our nations students back to states and local communities. U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., applauded the bipartisan legislation that overhauls No Child Left Behind testing requirements and ends federal incentives that impose Common Core standards on states. Enzi is a senior member of the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions Committee and served on the conference committee between the House and Senate that put the final version of the bill together. For too long now I have heard stories from teachers, students, and parents from all across Wyoming about the harm inflicted by the prep-for-the-test system that has been in place, Enzi said. That ends with the signing of this bill. A reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Enzi said the bill is designed to empower parents and teachers to make the decisions they think are best in the classroom instead of bureaucrats in Washington. This legislation allows issues to be debated and decisions to be made in a room of parents, students, teachers, school leaders, and community members who know best what works for their students, Enzi said. That is one of the purest forms of democracy that I can think of and certainly something I believe our founders had in mind for their idea of America. The Senate passed the legislation with large bipartisan support, 85-12. The House passed the bill last Wednesday and President Obama is expected to sign it. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
