The House of Representatives is expected to take up and pass the Senate-approved version shortly, which would send the legislation to the president for the first time. With approval of this budget reconciliation bill, the Senate today has passed the most comprehensive and far-reaching repeal of Obamacare that will actually reach the presidents desk, said Chairman Enzi. Most Americans are still opposed to this unprecedented expansion of government intrusion into health care because it represents nothing more than broken promises, higher costs and fewer choices." The budget reconciliation bill repeals more than $1.2 trillion in Obamacare tax hikes that hard working families would be forced to pay over the next 10 years, it reduces spending by nearly $1.5 trillion and provides almost $400 billion in on-budget deficit reduction over that same period, according to the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Obamacare is expected to cost American households more than $116 billion a year in new taxes. We need health care reform, but it must be done the right way, Chairman Enzi said. Our nation has made great strides in improving the quality of life for all Americans, but these changes were always forged in the spirit of bipartisan compromise and cooperation. The bill the Senate has approved today is the first step in building a bridge from Obamacares broken promises to better access to high-quality health care for each and every American. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
