The funding is the latest to be released after U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) penned a letter in April urging the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to release delayed grants to entities across the Commonwealth. “I’m grateful that FEMA continues to release funding that was owed to communities across the Commonwealth,” said Senator Fetterman. “Our communities count on hospitals and disaster recovery teams to work overtime to keep them safe. We should expect the same of the federal government.” The newly released funding includes roughly $13 million for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Allegheny County for expenses related to COVID-19 pandemic recovery efforts, as well as $350,000 to local governments to prevent and reduce future disaster damage in Pennsylvania. Earlier this year, FEMA released nearly $600 million in delayed funding to hospitals across the Commonwealth and an additional $10 million for Tropical Storm Debby.
