LINCOLN, NEB. Today, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer, a member of the Senate Commerce Committee and chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation and Safety, joined the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDoT) and Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts in celebrating the Lincoln South Beltway. What we have been able to do with the Lincoln South Beltway should serve as a model for future projects. If we can consistently reduce the amount of time it takes to finish construction, we can keep saving Nebraska taxpayers money. This is the biggest project NDOT has undertaken, but your years of hard work to get to this point have prepared you well. Completing this beltway will make our friends and family here in Lincoln safer. It will also make it easier for Lincoln residents to get their goods and services to market. This is the kind of infrastructure investment that will move Nebraska forward, said Senator Fischer in her remarks. More information: The Lincoln South Beltway project creates a new east-west expressway located south of Lincoln in Lancaster County. The four-lane expressway will divert freight traffic from the local transportation network which will increase safety and mobility. The beltway is anticipated to be opening for traffic in May 2023 and completed in 2024. Senator Fischer worked closely with Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao as well as Nebraska state and local leaders to obtain the highly competitive $25 million BUILD grant (previously known as a TIGER grant) in 2018 used to construct the beltway.
