The bill, which must still be voted on by the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives, was unanimously approved yesterday by the Senate Appropriations Committee. “Our water infrastructure keeps our communities safe, healthy, and thriving. These appropriations will maintain and modernize those systems so Nebraska is prepared for any extreme weather that comes our way,”said Senator Fischer. The Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act funds critical water projects that help communities become more resilient in the face of extreme weather events. It makes crucial investments in irrigation and flood control projects across the country. Funding projects secured by Senator Fischer for Nebraska are listed below: Fort Laramie Canal Tunnel Restoration Project Description: This funding will go towards permanent repairs at the Gering-Fort Laramie irrigation tunnel following its collapse in 2019. Appropriated Amount: $2,300,000 Harlan County Dredge Equipment Project Description: This new dredge equipment will allow recreational access and maintain cove access to the Harlan County Lake. Appropriated Amount: $1,700,000 Offutt Ditch Pump Station Project Description: This study is for a vital pump station that will collect runoff to allow for landside protection of levees and reduce flood risk. Appropriated Amount: $300,000 Lower Missouri Basin-Nemaha and Atchison Counties Feasibility Study Project Description: This study will develop flood risk reduction measures.
