This morning, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and chairman of the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities, applauded the selection of Nebraska for a new Army National Guard cyber protection team. Fischer released the following statement regarding the announcement: This is good news for Nebraska. Over the last two years, Ive called for our state to receive a cyber unit. I have worked closely with General Bohac, and previously with former Senator Johanns, in support of this effort. Im happy to see Nebraskas Guard will be able to apply the talents of our state to this new and innovative mission. I will continue to work with the Army National Guard as it moves closer to implementing its plan. Last night, the Nebraska National Guard announced that it was selected as one of seven new Army National Guard cyber protection teams. These units are designed to address the cyber threats facing the United States. Nebraska will partner with Arkansas and Missouri to host 39 soldiers for this unit between the three states. The Guard is expected to release information regarding how many soldiers from this unit it will receive, as well as the location, at a later date. According to the National Guard, the new cyber protection team is expected to begin in Nebraska and partnering states in fiscal year (FY) 2018. They expect it to become mission capable by FY 2019. # # # 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
