This funding will support the final phase and reconstruction of Runway 18/36 at the airport. Due to the significant length of Runway 18/36, the Department of Defense uses the runway for unique military missions, which are primarily carried out by the Nebraska National Guard to support both state and national defense activities. “I’m pleased that, after much steady advocacy, the Lincoln Airport will receive the funds necessary to complete the refurbishment of one of its runways that plays a crucial role in the operations of our Nebraska National Guard and other national security missions. This has been many years in the making, and I look forward to seeing this project come to a final completion,” Fischer said. Fischer’s advocacy for the Lincoln Airport: Fischer has long championed the Lincoln Airport runway rebuild project. Recently, Fischer met with Bryan Bedford, President Trump’s FAA Administrator, to advocate for the Lincoln Airport’s runway refurbishment. In 2022, Fischer announced a commitment from the National Guard Bureau to use available funding to cover a portion of the cost to fully rebuild the runway.
