(Section 1260F) Background: On September 10, 2019, Senator Gardner, along with Senators Jim Risch (R-ID) and Bob Menendez (D-NJ), chairman and ranking member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, sent a letter to Secretary Pompeo and Secretary Ross requesting an assessment of the adequacy of U.S. export controls with respect to Hong Kong. On September 26, 2019, Gardner held a hearing in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the emergency in Hong Kong, featuring a prominent Hong Kong pro-democracy leader Nathan Law. On November 19, 2019, legislation from Senators Gardner and Merkley (D-OR) unanimously passed the Senate. The legislation, S. 2710, was signed into law by the President on November 27, 2019, and would ban the U.S. export of crowd control munitions and equipment to the Hong Kong Police Force for one year. ### Cory Gardner is a member of the U.S. Senate serving Colorado.
