The Sun Valley neighborhood is the lowest-income neighborhood in Denver where 83 percent of households live below the poverty line. Gardner played an instrumental role in securing this grant for Denver. Gardner, in consultation with Mayor Hancock, advocated on behalf of the Denver Housing Authority and spoke with Secretary Julin Castro by phone to express his support for this project. I'm thrilled the Denver Housing Authority will receive $30 million to revitalize Denver's Sun Valley neighborhood, said Gardner. As the Department of Housing and Urban Development was considering this grant application, I spoke with Secretary Castro and explained how important this funding is to this Denver community. The local government and its key partners put together a major revitalization plan for this neighborhood and this grant will allow the plan to move forward. Whether it's the 750 new housing units or the increase in access to quality jobs and education, we will see tangible benefits for individuals and families in this community as a result of this grant.
