U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, announced today that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) will award two Colorado projects a combined total of $2,493,019 in Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) program grants. The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad will receive nearly $2 million for its Animas River Bridge Replacement project, after Gardner wrote to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chaoin support of the railroad's applicationfor CRISI grant funding in July 2020. I frequently hear from Coloradans from across our state concerned with improving our roads, highways, railways, and other infrastructure,said Senator Gardner.These grants are exciting news and will help support our local communities. I'm pleased the Department of Transportation continues to recognize transportation needs in Colorado, and I will continue to work with communities across our state to support their infrastructure priorities at the federal level. The following projects will receive funding: Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad $1,945,019to build a replacement bridge over the Animas River between Durango and Silverton.
