U.S. Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO), Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy, released the following statement regarding the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) decision to ban telecommunications providers from using federal subsidies to purchase equipment or services from Huawei and ZTE. Huawei and ZTE telecommunications products are not safe for the U.S. or any of our allies around the globe, said Senator Gardner. While we must ensure any American providers who are impacted by this decision are made whole for equipment they have previously installed using federal dollars, I applaud the FCC for taking action today. It is concerning that allies like Germany are considering relying on their products. I hope our allies in Europe and around the globe hear us loud and clear. In June, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee unanimously passed Gardner's bipartisan resolution warning allies of the risks of using Chinese 5G networks. ### Cory Gardner is a member of the U.S. Senate serving Colorado. He sits on the Energy & Natural Resources Committee, the Foreign Relations Committee, the Commerce, Science, & Transportation Committee, and is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
