The vote follows House passage of counterpart legislation by a vote of 419-1. The legislation extends the Iran Sanctions Act through 2026. The act is designed to prevent the Iranian regime from obtaining resources to support terrorism and develop weapons of mass destruction. Sen. Chuck Grassley made the following comment on the vote.“I was glad to support the extension of the Iran Sanctions Act. The sanctions regime, which was set to expire at the end of this year, was the driving force to bring Iran to the negotiating table on nuclear weapons. Extending the sanctions regime for ten years is critical to ensure that the United States continues to have these tools at its disposal to respond to Iranian threats and provocations.
