Chuck Grassley of Iowa today made the following comment on a bipartisan highway bill that Congress passed this week and that the President signed into law. It was important for Congress to get back to regular business on transportation funding, and I was glad to help pass a five-year highway bill. The Republican majority deserves credit for getting this done. While there are things I would have changed in the bill, Iowa and other states need predictability in policy so they can plan transportation projects. It's hard to get roads and bridges built when funding isn't predictable. More needs to be done to address the long-term health of the Highway Trust Fund, but the bill I voted for continues in the right direction of providing certainty for those planning state and local projects.
