Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) welcomed an announcement that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration (NCA) has awarded $1,358,525 in grant funding to the state of Iowa to expand the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in rural Dallas County. The grant will fund 2,160 columbarium niches and landscaping. Grassley attended the cemetery’s dedication on July 3, 2008. “We owe a deep debt of gratitude to our veterans, who sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms and liberties. The Iowa Veterans Cemetery provides a peaceful and meaningful resting place for those who have served our country in uniform. This new funding will ensure the cemetery can continue its mission to honor these heroes and their families,” Grassley said. Background: Since 1980, the VA Veterans Cemetery Grants Program has awarded 525 grants totaling over $1.187 billion to establish, expand, improve, operate or maintain 125 veterans cemeteries.
