Dangerous products illegally masquerading as lawful dietary supplements present a serious risk to public health. To address this problem, Congress has provided ample authorities to the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Justice, and numerous other federal agencies to protect consumers, and I have long advocated foreffectiveenforcement of federal standards. Such action isessential to a well-functioning regulatory infrastructure on which millions ofdietary supplement consumers, like me, depend. In May 2015, Senator Hatch and Senator Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., wrote to Attorney General Loretta Lynch to strongly urge DOJ, in cooperation with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), to prioritize the aggressive pursuit of individuals and companies that illegally manufacture and sell misbranded drug products falsely labeled as dietary supplements. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
