This milestone comes after Senator Hawley’s legislation, expanding the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) to include Missourians, was signed into law by President Trump in 2025. RECA provides compensation to Americans who developed radiation-linked cancers due to the federal nuclear arms program during the Second World War- and Cold War-eras. Over $320 million has been delivered in total to survivors across the country under Senator Hawley’s RECA law. Thousands more survivors and their families may still be eligible to receive RECA compensation, which is administered by the Department of Justice.
