The bill, introduced by Rep. Norma J. Torres (D-CA) and Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), is named "Savanna’s Act" in honor of the late Savanna Greywind. The bill is intended to accompany a similar one introduced in the US Senate by Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND). The bills would work to close the gaps between tribal, local, and federal law enforcement agencies. Heitkamp’s bill is currently before the Senate’s Committee on Indian Affairs, and Torres is a ranking member of a House subcommittee on Native American affairs. Greywind’s body was found along the Red River in August, more than a week after she disappeared. Greywind was pregnant at the time of her disappearance, though authorities found the child in a Fargo apartment. The child is said to be in good health and living with Greywind’s boyfriend. Two people face charges of conspiracy to commit murder and kidnapping in Greywind’s disappearance and death. Thirty-eight-year-old Brooke Crews intends to change her plea, while 32-year-old William Hoehn awaits another court appearance. 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
