U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp announced $250,000 in federal funding to the City-County Health District in Valley City to combat the ongoing opioid epidemic. Combating opioid abuse will take an all-hands-on-deck approach that involves all members of the community, said Heitkamp. By traveling to each corner of North Dakota and listening to folks who are impacted by this crisis I have been working to pass policies that will help communities fight opioid and drug abuse. This federal funding will help Valley City combat opioid addiction by supporting health care services to help folks in need. These federal funds are made available through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Federal Office of Rural Health Policy's Rural Health Opioid Program. This federal grant program works to promote rural health care services to combat opioid related deaths in rural communities. Heitkamp recently voted with a bipartisan majority of the U.S. Senate to pass comprehensive, bipartisan legislation to combat the ongoing, nationwide substance abuse crisis. The legislation includes provisions Heitkamp successfully fought for to address the ripple effects of North Dakota's overdose epidemic among children, families, and rural communities. | 1 | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z | 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z |
