Heitkamp will no longer participate in previously scheduled events in North Dakota on Wednesday, September 4 and Thursday, September 5. “The potential use of force in Syria is an issue I take seriously, and I will closely study all sides of this debate,” said Heitkamp.  “I will not make a final decision about my vote until I gather the latest intelligence and hear from the Administration and my constituents.  And I’m coming back to Washington so I can participate in briefings and hold meetings about possible military action in Syria.  Over the next week, I will be seeking more information from the Administration on how potential strikes meet U.S. strategic needs, the end goal of them, and how they could impact our long-term standing in the Middle East.  The responses I get, as well as how the authorization for force is written and what I hear from North Dakotans, will all help me decide how I will vote.”  ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
