S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) today issued the following statement about her vote to confirm Gina McCarthy as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency: While I continue to have serious concerns with the EPA, the President needs to be able to put his team in place. An agency with such far reaching regulatory authority should not be allowed to be a rudderless ship. I met with Gina and found her straightforward, transparent, willing to discuss and debate the tough issues, and most importantly, open and inclusive when it comes to regulatory issues at the EPA. We won’t agree all of the time – we will probably not see eye to eye very often – but I feel Gina is someone who will provide all stakeholders a seat at the table. I let Gina know that there needs to be a path forward for coal in our current and future energy mix. She is aware that I will continue to fight for coal-fired power and its crucial place in our national energy portfolio. I look forward to working with Secretary McCarthy and hope she is sincere in her remarks to make EPA a more inclusive and open agency that will seriously consider the real-world economic costs and energy and business impacts of any proposed regulation. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
