The Narcotics Task Force is a joint venture between the Health Policy Consortium and the North Dakota Pharmacy Association.  “Prescription drug abuse is the most rapidly growing drug problem facing the country,” Heitkamp said. “Today’s meeting was an important opportunity for law enforcement, health providers, and local officials to work side-by-side to stem the tide of drug abuse. Too many North Dakotans, their families, and communities have been torn apart by drug abuse or deaths. We need to put an end to this growing problem now before it's too late. I look forward to working with the task force going forward and doing all I can to help from the federal level.”   Heitkamp was joined at the meeting by representatives from across the law enforcement and health communities, including the N.D. Attorney General’s office, Sanford Health, the West Fargo Police Department, the N.D. Pharmacy Association, the N.D. Medical Association, the N.D. Indian Affairs Commission, and the N.D. Board of Pharmacy. Fighting drug abuse in North Dakota is one of Heitkamp’s priorities in the state. As a part of her efforts to improve community safety and curb drug abuse, last month she brought White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Director R. Gil Kerlikowske to North Dakota to see first hand the drug abuse and crime problems plaguing the Bakken, and talk about solutions to this problem. With the expertise of leading members of the medical community, the Narcotics Task Force is working to find ways the state can curtail drug problems using the four key pillars of the President’s National Drug Control Strategy: education, monitoring, proper disposal, and enforcement. ### 1 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z 2026-03-30T12:14:52Z
